Askenly MCP server

Connect Claude, or any assistant that supports remote MCP servers, to your Askenly workspace. Ask how your automations did, draft a new one, find an open booking time or schedule a post from a chat. Your plan decides what the assistant may do, and every call is checked and logged.

You ask in plain words. The assistant picks an Askenly tool, Askenly checks your plan, and the answer comes back in the chat.

What MCP is

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use outside tools. Askenly’s MCP server gives your assistant a fixed list of tools for your workspace. The assistant can only do what those tools allow, and Askenly checks your plan, your limits and the admin switches before each one runs.

Owners use it to get answers without opening the dashboard: which chats need a person, what’s scheduled this week, how a Reel’s automation is doing. Agencies use it to check a client’s workspace quickly and to draft automations that a person reviews before they go live.

Before you start

  • A plan with MCP access. It starts on Starter with read-only tools.
  • The owner or admin role in the workspace. Members can’t create tokens or approve assistants.
  • An assistant that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP, such as Claude on claude.ai, the Claude desktop app or Claude Code.
  • For tools that touch posts or automations, a connected Instagram account.

Connect your assistant

There are two ways to connect. Signing in is simpler; a token suits tools that ask for one.

  1. Sign in from Claude

In Claude, add a custom connector with the server address /api/public/mcp on your Askenly domain. Claude opens an Askenly sign-in page where you choose the workspace to allow. No token to copy.

  2. Or create a token

Open Settings → Account → Claude (MCP) access, give the token a name such as “Claude desktop” and create it. Askenly shows it once, so copy it straight into your assistant. Tokens start with ask_.

  3. Ask a simple question

Try “How did my automations do this month?” If an answer comes back, the connection works.

  4. Check it in Settings

Settings → Account lists each token with when it was last used, so you can see the assistant is connected.

Access and daily limits by plan

Your plan sets which tools the assistant may use and how many calls it can make a day. Days are counted in UTC.

Read your workspace

Read-only · from Starter

Look things up without changing anything.

  • get_workspace_overview

    Workspace overview

Plan, MCP access level, the workspace's Instagram accounts and their status, and counts of contacts, active automations, upcoming appointments, scheduled posts and open conversations.

  • list_posts

    List posts

Content posts with their status and schedule. Filter by status to see the publishing calendar.

  • list_automations

    List automations

Instagram automations: name, account, goal, trigger, keywords and whether each is active.

  • list_contacts

    List contacts

Contacts (leads and customers). Optional search over name, handle and email. With account: that account's contacts plus the workspace-wide ones.

  • list_appointments

    List appointments

Bookings between two dates (default: the next 14 days).

  • list_conversations

    List conversations

Recent Instagram DM conversations with the account they came in on, the last message, and whether a person needs to take over.

  • find_open_slots

    Find open booking times

Open appointment times for a booking service, in the business's time zone, using its real availability and existing bookings. Without service_id it lists the bookable services and their ids.

Draft and organise

Read + draft · from Growth

Create drafts, automations and contacts for you to review.

  • create_draft_post

    Create draft post

Create a draft post (caption and optional title). Media is added later in Askenly; drafts are never published automatically.

  • update_draft_post

    Update draft post

Change the caption or title of a post that is still a draft.

  • create_or_update_automation

    Create or update automation

Create an Instagram automation the same way the Askenly builder does, or replace one (pass id; send the full automation, fields left out are cleared). Goals: deliver (send a message and/or link), grow (send a link), book (offer booking times or a booking website), answer (FAQ answers). Example: a comment on the latest Reel containing GUIDE sends a Notion link = goal deliver, trigger comment, keywords ["GUIDE"], apply_to latest_post, link_url. New automations start paused unless active is true, and turning one on needs Full access. Appears in Askenly → Automations and can be edited there.

  • create_or_tag_contact

    Create or tag contact

Add a contact, or update one (by id, or matched by email or Instagram handle): name, email, status and tags. Never deletes a contact.

Act for you

Full · from Scale

Schedule, pause, book and enrol, with the same checks as the app.

  • schedule_post

    Schedule post

Schedule a post that has media, 5 minutes to 75 days ahead. Counts toward the plan's monthly post limit.

  • unschedule_post

    Unschedule post

Move a scheduled post back to draft.

  • set_automation_status

    Pause or resume automation

Turn an automation on or off. Turning on respects the plan's active automation limit.

  • book_or_reschedule_appointment

    Book, reschedule or cancel appointment

Book a customer into an open time (see find_open_slots), move a booking to another open time, or cancel it. Customers with an email get the usual confirmation, reminder and change emails with their reschedule/cancel link.

  • enroll_in_sales_sequence

    Enroll in sales email sequence

Start a Get More Sales email sequence for someone who agreed to receive it. Sends real emails; suppressed or unsubscribed addresses are refused.

Things to ask your assistant

Plain requests work best. Name the post, automation or service when there’s more than one.

  • Show me how my automations performed this month.
  • Which conversations need a person right now?
  • Create an automation that sends my free guide to anyone who comments GUIDE on my latest Reel.
  • Find open times for a consultation next week.
  • Draft a caption for tomorrow’s Reel about our spring offer.
  • Pause the welcome automation until Monday.

Safety built into every call

Nothing goes live by surprise

Posts it writes stay as drafts, and automations it creates start paused unless your plan has Full access and you ask for them to be turned on.

Your plan’s limits still apply

Daily call and draft caps, monthly post limits and active automation limits are checked on every request.

No Instagram DMs

MCP can’t message your followers. Emails only go to people who agreed to receive them; unsubscribed addresses are refused.

You stay in control

Every call is recorded. Revoke a token or disconnect an app any time in Settings → Account.

When a request is refused

The assistant shows Askenly’s reason in the chat. These are the ones you’re most likely to see.

Several Instagram accounts

If your workspace has more than one Instagram account, read tools return results from all of them and name the account on each one. Add the username to narrow it down, for example “Show automations for @glowstudio.” Each token or sign-in belongs to one workspace; connect again to give the assistant a second workspace.

Good practice

  • Create one token per assistant or device and name it, so you know which one to revoke.
  • Delete tokens you no longer use. Settings → Account shows when each was last used.
  • Review automations the assistant creates before switching them on. They start paused unless you have Full access and ask for them to be live.
  • Treat a token like a password. Never paste it into a shared document or a public repository.
  • Start with read-only questions until you trust how your assistant phrases requests.

Tokens and logging

Workspace tokens start with ask_ (older ones start with dms_ and keep working). Askenly stores only a fingerprint of each token, so nobody can read one back, including us. Anyone who has a token can use it until it’s revoked, and revoking it in Settings → Account cuts access straight away.

Every call is logged with the tool used and whether it succeeded, and creating a token is recorded in the workspace’s audit log. If the admin switch for MCP is turned off, every call is refused until it’s back on.

MCP questions

What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI assistants use outside tools. Askenly’s MCP server gives your assistant a safe set of tools for your workspace.

Which assistants work with it?

Claude (claude.ai, the desktop app and Claude Code) and any other assistant that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP.

Which plan do I need?

MCP starts on Starter with read-only access. Growth adds drafts, and Scale adds scheduling, pausing automations, bookings and email sequences.

Can someone else use my token?

Anyone with the token can use it, so keep it private like a password. It’s shown only once; if it leaks, revoke it in Settings → Account and create a new one.

Does it work with more than one workspace?

Yes. When you connect from claude.ai you choose the workspace to allow, and each token belongs to one workspace.
